JD-Classics-At-Retromobile

JD Classics once again amazed visitors to the prestigious Retromobile show in Paris with a selection of some of its finest cars, including a unique alloy-bodied Mercedes-Benz 300SL and a one-of-nine Ferrari 250 LWB TdF.

With more than 500 cars on display at Retromobile, there are always plenty of incredible classics, but the JD Classics stand consistently attracted a crowd, and was even voted as ‘Best Classic Car Stand’ by Classic Driver.

One of the star attractions of the JD Classics stand was the ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz 300SL Alloy Gullwing Coupe. Only three were delivered to the UK, and the JD Classics car is uniquely finished in Elephant Ivory/Red Gabardine Tartan interior with matching Elephant Ivory livery.

Also attracting plenty of attention were a pair of JD Classics’ ever-expanding collection of classic Ferraris: an open-headlight Ferrari 250 LWB Tdf and a Ferrari F40 LM. The 250 LWB TdF is just one of nine in existence, raced extensively in 1959-60 by Casimiro Toselli and competing in the legendary Mille Miglia three times in the 1980s. The F40 LM, meanwhile, is just one of 19 factory-modified for competition by Michelotto, fitted with an uprated gearbox, brakes and an engine producing between 850-900bhp.

The Maldon-based classic car specialist also showcased a 1972 Porsche 911 2.5 S-R, which is one of just 21 genuine factory works race specification examples. Raced by Bavarian driver Anton Fischaber in the ‘70s, the 2.5 S-R took victories in the 1972 and 1974 European Hill Climb Championships, and was also entered in to the 1972 and 1973 1000km race at the Nurburgring. Restored to its 1972 specification with factory original parts, this Porsche remains a genuinely original first production competition car.

JD Classics highlighted its world-famous restorations at Retromobile with the help of a gleaming 1967 Aston Martin DB6 MK1 Vantage Volante. A team of more than fifty craftsmen worked for thousands of hours at JD Classics’ headquarters in Maldon, Essex on this perfect bare-metal restoration. The team’s restorations have already won countless awards at some of the most prestigious classic car events in the world, including Pebble Beach and The Quail.

JD Classics Managing Director, Derek Hood, said, “Retromobile gathers some of the finest classic car specialists from across the globe so we really wanted to stand out with the rarity and variety of cars on our stand. Given the amount of interest we had from old customers, potential new customers and general visitors alike, we’re very pleased. Our world-class team in Maldon did a fantastic job preparing the cars, and our staff manning the stand consistently revealed their excellent knowledge and attitude.”
