With around six out of 10 cars sold in the market, the small car or entry level hatchback segment, is ever allure to all car makers. Now with the recently unveiled Reanault Kwid and to be launched refreshed Hyundai Eon, Motown is looking to heat steam up the segment.  Here’s a quick look at the three best small cars available today and how they fancy against each.



Maruti Alto 800


Maruti Suzuki India had launched the all-new Alto 800 hatchback on October 16, 2012. The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 replaced the incumbent Alto in Maruti’s product line-up, and is available in both petrol and CNG versions. The new Alto 800 carries over the tried and tested F8D powerplant, but it has been tuned to deliver more power and torque, and better fuel efficiency. In this avatar, the Alto 800 gets 48 PS of power and 69 Nm of torque, while also being 15 percent more fuel efficient into the bargain. ARAI has certified the new Alto 800’s fuel efficiency at 22.74 km/l. The gearbox has also been optimised to improve shift action, which was never the original Alto’s strong point.



Hyundai Eon

The Hyundai Eon is the company's entry level hatchback that targets young buyers who are looking to buy their first car. The cheapest car in Hyundai's range, it is only sold in India. With an 814cc three-cylinder engine, the Eon is aimed squarely at Maruti Alto buyers. A 1.0-litre Kappa engine has also been added to the model range. The Eon was launched in India way back in 2011, while the variant with the larger 1.0-litre Kappa engine was launched in May 2014. Now the maker eyes to launch the refreshed version of the car late 2015.



Renault Kwid

French carmaker Renault has unveiled its all new global entry-level hatchback ‘Kwid’ in India, which is laos tagged as the ‘Baby Duster’. At first glance, the Renault Kwid comes across as an attractive and modern car, with a spacious and comfortable interior. The Renault Kwid measures 3680 mm in length and 1580 mm in width. With it’s upright front end and short front and rear overhangs provide owners with more assertive presence.
