Alto-s

Further strengthening its popularitylevel,Maruti Suzuki’s top selling model and India’s premier hatchback car Alto, has touched a great landmark by outreaching the historic mark of 20 lakh cumulative sales counts recently. It took only 11 years and 9 months for Alto since its launch in the market to achieve this figure.

It is to be noted that Maruti Suzuki Alto, has maintained its smooth run as the No.1 selling car in Indian market for the last seven years. However, much higher international laurels have been bestowed upon the car; Alto has also earned the distinct tag as the highest selling small car in the world for the past two years. That is not all; this tiny power-horse has clocked as the fastest model in the car world to reach 10 lakh marks in the sales count within 99 months of its launch in 2000. This month Alto has set up another record by delivering the next one million units within a span of 3.5 years.

Commenting on the magnetic pull of Alto, Mayank Pareek, Chief Operating Officer, (Marketing and Sales), mentioned: “Alto’s superior fuel efficiency, compact sleek design, good maneuverability and overall low cost of ownership are the attributes that make it the best car for the first time buyers. Alto as a complete package continues to win customer’s hearts and surprise everyone with its performance.”

While going through Alto’s market performance, one can easily find that this mini car has set up many records. It is the only car model in the domestic market to be sold in excess of 300,000 units in a single year (2010-11). It repeated this gem feat the following year too. Alto is also the trend setting Indian car to undergo and successfully come out of a 24 hrs endurance test and in the process setting 13 national records.

Extension of Alto range:

Bolstered by the trust shown by the customers in Alto and the level of confidence that its has bagged within a limited time, Maruti Suzuki stretched the Alto brand by launching a powerful K-Series engine variant in an Alto K-10 model in August 2010. Moreover, a CNG variant of this car has also hit the market.

Superior Mileage:

Alto is a clear champion in the fuel efficiency aspect too. On road, Alto K-10 variants’ mileage reaches 19.7 kmpl and 20.2 kmpl. In competitive rallies too it has proved its worth by clocking the best mileage figure.

2011 JD Power APEALAward:

Alto bagged the last2011 JD Power APEAL Award in the entry segment after being judged in the benchmarks of vehicle exterior; vehicle interior; storage and space; audio/entertainment/navigation; seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); driving dynamics; engine/transmission; visibility and driving safety; and mileage.

Overall winning formula:

Superior fuel efficiency, compact design and top-grade navigation skill through congested roads have firmly placed Alto in the hearts of its owners. Moreover, in a country where cost-consideration always guides market trend, Alto’s low running and maintenance costs have acted in its favour.Naturally,Alto is the top draw for first time buyers. There is no prize in guessing that with the rising fuel price, cars with superior mileage will rule the market in the coming times and here Alto enjoys a clear upper hand.

Alto will soon find a sibling, a replacement for the erstwhile Maruti 800 model. Currently, Hyundai Eon gives a tough fight to the Alto. As per report, Tata is also planning to launch an 800cc Nano. No doubt, 800 cc hatchback market is warming up in India.
