new toyota corolla altis variants

With the impending launch of the new Toyota Corolla Altis just a couple of weeks away, we bring you more details about this exciting D-segment car. The new Altis will be available in a total of eight variants when it goes on sale, which includes 5 petrol and three diesel variants.

The 5 petrol variants are:

The 3 diesel variants are:

The key change to the Corolla Altis range has been the addition of one more automatic variant. According to Toyota, it received feedback from customers who wanted an automatic transmission, but did not want all the extra features of the top-of-the-line VL variant. In response to this critical feedback, Toyota has decided to add a G-CVT variant to the range of the new Corolla Altis. The VL-CVT variant however gets paddle shifters on the steering wheel, which the G-CVT variant does not have.

The diesel variants remain the same as before.

Toyota wants to position the new Corolla Altis as more upmarket than before. To that end, now even the base J grade will get additional features like airbags, climate control, stereo and keyless entry, which were previously offered on the G variant onwards only. Toyota will be offering a touchscreen entertainment system with SD card slot, USB and Bluetooth connectivity on all variants. The difference will be in the screen-size and number of speakers fitted. The top VL-CVT has built in GPS navigation as well, and cruise control.

What the new Corolla Altis does not have is rear AC vents, or a cooled glove box, or ventilated seats, which are available in other cars in the segment.

The new Corolla Altis will be available in seven colours as before. However, the Dark Red Mica Metallic shade has been dropped after finding very few takers. Now, Toyota is offering a dark metallic Grey in its place. So the 7 shades are: Super White, Black Mica,  Blue Metallic, Champagne Mica Metallic, White Pearl Mica, Silver Mica Metallic, and Grey Mica Metallic. The base J variant will be restricted to only three shades however, which include Blck, White and Silver.

The new Toyota Corolla Altis will likely be launched sometime in the first half of May 2014. Indicators are that the price of the new Corolla Altis will start at approximately 1 lakh rupees more than previously, so expect and ex-showroom price of Rs 13 lakh for the base J petrol variant when the car goes on sale, going up to Rs 17.5 lakh for the VL-CVT version. The diesel Altis prices will likely start at Rs 13.8 lakh.
