Skoda has given its flagship Superb a facelift, which will be seen on both the sedan and estate versions. However, in India, only the Skoda Superb sedan is on sale, and the facelifted version is likely to come to our shores within the next quarter.
The new Skoda Superb borrows Skoda’s new ‘face’, first previewed on the Mission L concept, and then seen on the upcoming new Skoda Octavia. The new grille, re-shaped headlamps, from bumper and bonnet are all new, giving the new Superb a more purposeful look. At the rear too, the tail lamps have been reworked. The new tail light design is much better looking, giving the car a grown up look, while borrowing cues from the VW AG family brands, including Audi and Volkswagen.
The interiors have been reworked as well, with a new dashboard, steering wheel and centre console, which now boasts of even greater storage space. A new brown and beige colour scheme is offered as well, and this colour scheme is likely to b popular with Indian customers. A new 6.5-inch clour touch screen with built-in navigation is offered on the top end variant as well.
Prices are likely to rise slightly, but expect the new Skoda Superb to still remain a value champion in its segment. It isn’t cheap, but it is a very credible alternative to luxury saloons, including its stable mate Audi A4. This value proposition is what Skoda is about, and with the new look Superb, it is set to continue in the same vein.
Powertrains remain the same however, with 1.8 TSI and 2.0-litre TDI engines, with the option of manual and DSG automatic gearboxes. For European markets, a smaller 1.4 TSI petrol engine, like we see in the Indian version of the Volkswagen Jetta, is the entry level engine option.
“The Škoda Superb is the pinnacle of our model line-up and proves ŠKODA’s capability as a manufacturer. This comprehensive facelift has made our top model even more attractive,” said Škoda CEO Winfried Vahland.
