Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India, launched at Audi Q3 S Edition in the presence of three honorary members of the Audi Club – India’s leading lady golfer, Sharmila Nicollet, former captain of the Indian football team, Baichung Bhutia and Audi India race talent, Aditya Patel.

German luxury car manufacturer Audi has launched the Audi Q3 S Edition of its popular Q3 SUV at the price of Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom New delhi).  The Audi Q3 S is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The powerplant produces 142PS in the S trim as opposed to 180PS in the regular Q3. Power is transferred through the front-wheels, which means the Q3 S does not have Audi's famed quattro all-wheel drive system.

"The Audi Q3 is not only the most awarded luxury SUV in its segment but also the most successful. We are the market leaders in the luxury SUV segment and the Audi Q3 further consolidated that position for us. Our customer feedback revealed a growing inclination of our younger customers towards a more engaging drive. The Audi Q3 S Edition is our answer to this ever increasing demand for luxury mobility with the thrill of self-controlled driving. We are confident that the Audi Q3 S Edition, will be yet another successful addition to our success story in India," said, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India

Leather seats, cruise control, voice dialog system, climate control, MMI with Bluetooth connectivity and 18-inch alloy wheels come as standard features. What will go amiss is Audi’s signature daytime running LED lamps.

The luggage compartment of the compact SUV has a capacity of 460 litres, which can be increased to 1,365 litres by folding down the split rear seat backs.

The Audi Q3 S has been launched in part to keep Audi in the booming entry-luxury segment. At a stroke, the deletion of technology and equipment like the DSG gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive, plus no LED daytime running lights, has knocked Rs 2.5 lakh off the Q3's starting price. With this move, Audi is gunning for Mercedes' new compact car family, including the recently introduced A-Class and B-Class hatchbacks, which have stolen Audi's sales thunder in July. The new Q3 S will now be the cheapest Audi in India, and the entry point to the brand, before the new A3 sedan is launched later this year, or early in 2014.

BMW is soon set to join the fray with its 1 Series hatchback and compact sedan as well, which are set to be unveiled in the first week of September. For Indian car buyers shopping around for a premium badge for not too much money, things couldn't get better.

The Audi Q3 S Edition will be avaiable at all Audi dealerships across India from end of August.
