British luxury car manufacturer Bentley today launched the new Flying Spur sedan at the price of Rs 3.1 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The company stated that they are betting big on India and expect to clock an annual sale of “hundreds of units” by 2016-17.

Present at the launch Chris Buxton, Regional Manager, Bentley Motors, India, South Africa & Middle East said, “India is a very important market for Bentley, our association with Exclusive Motors has been really rewarding and goes back a long way. India is the hub of luxury, the country of the erstwhile Maharaja’s, who were the true patrons of bespoke luxury. We have, in the past received a heartening response from our valued customers and I think the launch of the New Flying Spur will truly delight our loyal and discerning audience. The new model is faster and more powerful than its predecessor, while also featuring enhanced cabin technology and even higher levels of comfort and refinement.”

The Bentley Flying Spur was first introduced in 2006, and was essentially a stretched variant of the Bentley Continental GT. In fact it was christened the Bentley Continental Flying Spur but the company has decided to drop the ‘Continental’ tag. It is powered by a 6.0-litre W12 engine mated to an eight-speed, quick-shift automatic transmission from ZF. The powerplant produces 625 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque. The Bentley Flying Spur can accelerate from o-100 kmph in 4.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 322 kmph.

The British auto maker also stated that it will launch all the new global models, including the recently announced SUV, in India. “We see a big potential for our upcoming SUV in India. We will keep bringing all our latest models here,” Buxton added.

Currently, India accounts for about 1-2 per cent of Bentley’s global sales and the company is optimistic that this number will increase in the future. “That will become around 5-7 per cent when we hit peak sales around 2017 with the launch of the SUV,” Buxton said. “We see double digits growth in sales in India.”

Speaking on the occasion, Satya Bagla, Managing Director, Exclusive Motors said “We are pleased to launch The New Flying Spur in India; the car is a modern statement of luxury driving and grand touring. The New Flying Spur is faster than most of the 2 door luxury sports car and has taken luxury to a whole new level setting the highest benchmark. Thus, one can enjoy the rare combination of Speed & Luxury with the new model. We are thrilled to launch the New Flying Spur and are confident that the car will receive an overwhelming response from the patrons of luxury."
