Italian auto manufacturer Fiat has launched the Linea Classic, a more economically priced version of its Linea sedan. The new more affordable Linea will be available in two trim levels – Classic and Classic Plus and has been priced at Rs 5.99 lakh for the petrol variant and between Rs 6.95 – Rs 7.70 lakh for the diesel variants, all prices being ex-showroom, Delhi. That makes the new Fiat Linea Classic over Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the base petrol and diesel variants of the regular Linea sedan.

Of course, the slashing of prices means that the Linea Classic variants with lose out many of features which the regular Linea boasts of. The list includes airbags, steering-mounted controls, rear AC vents and chrome touches. Alloy wheels is now available only on the Classic Plus diesel variant.

However, the noticeable change is under the hood with the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel now producing 76PS – identical to the Fiat Punto – as opposed to the 93PS on the regular Linea. However, Fiat has kept the 1.4-litre petrol engine untouched and produces 90PS.

Speaking on the launch, Nagesh Basavanhalli, President and Managing Director-FIAT Chrysler Operations India said, “FIAT India has exciting plans for this festive season. To celebrate and share the festivities with our customers, we have launched the Linea Classic which will give them the spacious comfort of a sedan at the price range of a hatchback. India is an important market for us and this endeavour is an important step for FIAT in that direction. We are optimistic about our prospect for growth in the Indian car market, which is rapidly becoming one of the major markets in the world. With the launch of the Linea Classic, an expanding dealer network and upcoming marketing initiatives, we will be in a strong position to capitalize on this growth. This car will be an attractive offering for the customers at a very affordable price and we plan to reach the incumbent and prospective customers in all the cities through our 79 exclusive dealerships in near future.”

The new Fiat Linea Classic will compete with other entry-level sedans such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Toyota Etios.
