Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India with the Indian Motorcycle’s Chief range

 

Polaris India has launched motorcycle segment in India with its least expensive model priced at Rs 26.5 lakh. The iconic US bike maker, which has brought in the entire Indian Motorcycle’s Chief range eyes 10 per cent of the super bike space in the country.

                     

“We have entered the space with Indian Chief Classic, Indian Chief Vintage and Indian Chieftain models. We are targeting the above 1,600cc bike market, which is roughly 200 bikes every year and is expected to grow by 40-50 per cent in a few years. We aim to have 10 per cent market share in the segment,” said Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India. The company is targeting businessmen, company executives and sports enthusiasts in the 30-50 age group segment.

 

Polaris India has brought in the entire Indian Motorcycle’s Chief range, which is powered by Thunder Stroke 111engine that churns out 139 Nm of torque at 2600 rpm and 6-speed transmission. The range will be sold through completely-built-up (CBU) route, which will attract an additional value-added tax of 12.5 per cent.

 

The Indian Chief Class has been priced at Rs 26.5 lakh, Indian Chief Vintage at Rs 29.5 lakh and Indian Chieftain at Rs 33 lakh.

 

The company will set up its first dealership in Delhi and will deliveries by mid-March. The firm will open its second dealership in Bangalore later this year.

 

Indian Motorcycle has set up a warehouse in Faridabad and its engineers will travel across the country to address service-related issues.
