Indian carmaker Mahindra has launched its first compact SUV TUV300 with an introductory price of Rs. 7.34 lakh for the base T4 variant and going up to Rs 9.62 lakh for the top-end T8 AMT variant (ex-showroom, Kolkata).

The TUV300 will be manufactured in Mahindra's Chakan facility and will compete with the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport and the recently launched Hyundai Creta.

From the outside, the Mahindra TUV300 is quite masculine with the 'T' sign on the front denoting toughness on the overall boxy appearance that Mahindra claims to have been inspired from a battle tank. There is symmetrical placement of large headlamps on the either side of the vertical grille on the front fascia that also features a chrome lining giving it a premium touch. The bumpers are quite heavy in size circling the air-dams whereas the side is quite plain Jane without any curves or design. The alloy wheel size is a bit small compared to the overall size of the SUV which does look a bit out of place.

On the inside, Mahindra TUV300 features a black and beige dual tone interior theme with hints of silver that gives it a premium feel. The dashboard looks quite contemporary which is a refreshing change from the somewhat vanilla design of the Quanto. There are plenty of equipment and features that buyers might love in the Mahindra TUV300 including the 2-DIN music system that produces decent sound quality.

There is a large touchscreen infotainment system as well that can be used to navigate to the desired destination. The presence of Bluetooth, AUX-in and USB port enhances the connectivity of the SUV while there are other convenient features too in the form of LCD display unit at the center console with polygonal cluster and power windows. The SUV has a seating capacity of 7 passengers with the last row seats being best reserved for kids.

The Mahindra TUV300 also comes equipped with features such as static-bending headlamps, brake energy regeneration system, intellipark reverse assist, steering mounted audio and phone controls, voice messaging system, and driver information system.

The Mahindra TUV300 is powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk 80 diesel engine that delivers 85 PS of maximum power and 230 Nm of peak torque. There is an option for both manual and manual automatic transmission with the former having a 5 speed gearbox. Its first-in-class ECO mode function ensures an ARAI-ratified fuel efficiency of 18.49 kmpl.

According to Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, “The launch of all new TUV300 is a proud moment in the automotive journey for Mahindra. Conceptualized and developed at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) Chennai, the TUV300 is a clear manifestation of our participation in the ‘Make in India’ mission. As the market leader of SUVs in India, it has always been our endeavour to lead the way and create a compelling value proposition in an otherwise crowded segment. I am confident that similar to its predecessors, the TUV300 too will create a mark for itself and emerge as a strong brand from the house of Mahindra.”

Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive, (Automotive) Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, "The TUV300 bears testimony to Mahindra's capability of indegenously designing and developing a world-class and aspirational 'true-blue' SUV. In fact, its bold and masculine design and its powerful road presence comes with an assurance of high standards of safety and world-class quality. I am confident that the TUV300 will further cement our leadership position in the SUV segment."
