In order to grab a larger pie of the hatchback market, Maruti Suzuki India has launched the Celerio diesel at a starting price of Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The car will be available in a price range of Rs 4.65 lakh to 5.71 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Celerio diesel is powered by the DDiS 125 engine, which is a two-cylinder 793 cc unit capable of 47.5 PS at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Celerio diesel claims 27.62 km/l in the ARAI tests, thus clinching the title of India's most fuel efficient diesel passenger vehicle.

Maruti Suzuki and its suppliers have invested over Rs 900 crore for the development of the DDiS 125 engine, and it is made in India with a localisation of 97 percent. The 89 kg engine ensures in a light kerb weight of the Celerio diesel, which tips the scale at 900 kg for the top-end variant. 


The Celerio diesel will come in four variants namely LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O). The top-end ZDi (O) gets dual front airbags and ABS, while the ZDi gets only a driver-side airbag, and goes without ABS. A total of six colours are offered on the Celerio diesel, identical to the petrol variant.


The petrol-powered manual transmission variants of the Celerio are priced between Rs 3.90 lakh and Rs 4.96 lakh, while the auto gear shift variants of the compact car are priced between Rs 4.4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Celerio Auto Gear Shift variants have the flexibility of both manual mode and auto drive mode in the same car, with a simple shift of gear lever. The company also sells a CNG powered version of the car priced at Rs 4.85 lakh.

Launched in February 20, 2014, the Celerio model has clocked over 95,000 units with nearly a third of the total sales coming from auto gear shift variants. Celerio has played a pivotal role in strengthening Maruti Suzuki’s position in the lower hatchback segment. Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback has shot up to 71 per cent from 61 per cent within a year of Celerio’s launch.
