Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India with the AMG GT S

Mercedes Benz India has launched its flagship model, the AMG GT S at Rs 2.4 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the fifth AMG that has been launched in India this year and is developed completely in-house by the Mercedes-AMG department. Replacing the SLS AMG, an improvement over the AMG GT, the new GT S model will be replacing the existing SLS AMG and is the German car maker's fourteenth launch of the year for the Indian market.

“Mercedes-Benz was born on the race track and with the AMG GT S we have proven yet again that, racing is in our DNA and we ‘Drive Performance," said Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India

The Mercedes-AMG GT S is powered by an all-new 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 that churns out 510 PS of power along with 650 NM of torque between 1,750-4,750 rpm. The maximum speed of the car has been electronically limited at 310 kmph. The Mercedes-AMG GT S can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. Mercedes-Benz has stated that combined fuel efficiency of the engine is 10.4 kmpl. The GT S comes with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

On the outside, the Mercedes-AMG GT S looks like a true sports car. The long hood, combined with the diamond radiator grille and air outlets behind the front wings ooze of performance. The rear also looks sporty with an arched roof sloping back to meet the tail and long horizontal tail lights. The interiors ooze of performance with the AMG badging present on the steering wheel and the seats. The AMG crest has been embossed in the centre console armrest.

The AMG GT S weighs 1570 kg and has a power to weight ratio of 1:3. The car is available with three driving modes, C, S and S Plus. Manual control of the transmission can be swiftly taken by using the paddle-shifters. The dual clutch transmission shifts instantly with only milliseconds passing between shifts. It is also equipped with a Race Start function.

The AMG GT S will be competing against the Audi R8, Maserati Gran Turismo and Porsche 911.
