German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has launched the GL 63 AMG in India for a price of Rs 1.66 crore (ex-showroom Mumbai). This is the first time that an AMG range has been introduced to Mercedes-Benz’s SUV portfolio in India.

The Mercedes-Benz GL AMG is powered by 5.5-liter V8 biturbo that produces 565PS of maximum power between 5250-5750 rpm and 760Nm of peak torque between 2000-5000 rpm. The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG manages the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 4.9 seconds and boasts of an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

The engine mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFTPLUS 7G-Tronic with driving three modes; C – Controlled Efficiency; S – Sports; and M- Manual. In an attempt to enhance efficiency, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission incorporates a fuel-economy converter with centrifugal pendulum, bearings designed for reduced friction loss and a transmission-oil thermal management system. Friction loss-minimised axle gears, electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, an optimised belt drive and demand-responsive control of all ancillary units and pumps also help to reduce fuel consumption.

Mercedes-AMG also deploys a specially designed transfer case for the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, which distributes the drive power to the front and rear axle at a ratio of 40:60 in the interests of dynamic handling. In addition, the AMG ride control sports suspension with AIRMATIC package – consisting of air suspension, special damper struts, automatic level control and Adaptive Damping System (ADS) – is combined with the active curve system for active roll stabilisation. This employs active anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles to reduce the body roll angle during cornering and increase handling stability.

The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG comes as standard with 5-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted titanium grey tyres in size 295/40 R 21. The AMG high-performance braking systems provide for the shortest possible braking distances and high fade resistance with ventilated and perforated brake discs all-round.

The passenger cabin of the Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG boasts of great attention to detail, excellent ergonomics and a generous amount of space. All seven seats in the GL 63 AMG are covered in high-quality leather, as is the centre armrest. Electrically adjustable AMG sports seats feature double topstitching in a contrasting colour and AMG badges on the front seat backrests and outer rear seat backrests.

The dashboard, armrests and door panelling come in Artico man-made leather with double topstitching. As part of the optional ‘designo exclusive’ package, these components can be covered in high-quality designo leather. The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG also features flattened bottom AMG performance 4-spoke steering wheel with perforated leather in the grip area, and aluminium shift paddles.

The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG features two 20.3 cm displays, Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system with 14 high-performance speakers, wireless headphones and 2 infrared remote controls.

The Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG also comes equipped with Night View Assist Plus. This system enables drivers to recognise pedestrians earlier in the dark with the help of infrared headlamp and camera. On board computer analyses images and are shown in the central display of the COMAND system and outlined to draw attention to them.

Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz said, “The GL 63 AMG packs the perfect blend of style, luxury, sportiness and performance driving which are associated with the Mercedes-Benz and AMG brands. It is one of the most revolutionary products to come from Mercedes-Benz demonstrating the rich blend of sophistication with the latest design and technology. This is the perfect car for our customers and enthusiasts, who are passionate about performance driving and want an adrenaline gushing experience from their cars. The GL 63 AMG is a testimony to our continued endeavour to offer a thrilling experience to our customers in India.”
