a-class edition 1 launched

Boris Fitz Vice President, Sales & Network Development, Mercedes-Benz India posing with A-Class & B-Class 'Edition 1' at its launch in Kolkata

Mercedes-Benz India has launched limited editions of both the A-Class and B-Class to celebrate one year of the two cars introduction to the Indian market. When the A and B-Class were announced a year ago, the company was cautiously optimistic about their prospects.

A year down the road, Mercedes is having the last laugh, with the two new cars selling extremely well, beyond its own expectations. The A and B-Class together sold over 2,500 units in the last 12 months, which is a quarter of all Mercedes’ car sales in India.

So what’s new in the Edition 1?

For starters, there’s commemorative badging both inside and outside the car bearing the words ‘Edition 1’. Both cars get glossy black ORVM trim, a full length sunroof and fold-down rear armrest with cup holders. In keeping with the B-Class’ Sport Tourer moniker, it gets a rear seat entertainment package with two individual screens and infra-red wireless headphones. Special alloy wheels finished in dark grey complete the package.

Mercedes also says the A and B-Class now have a Comfort Package, which includes slightly cushier suspension and increased ride height, apparently on customer demand.

Both the A-Class Edition 1 and B-Class Edition 1 will be limited to just a 100 units each, across the country. Ex-showroom Prices in Kolkata are as follows:

A-Class Edition 1 – Rs 28.67 lakh

B-Class Edition 1 – Rs 31.33 lakh

Both the A-Class and B-Class Edition 1 are only available with the diesel engine.

Mercedes has also introduced a new shade of red for the B-Class. It now comes in three colours; white, silver and red.
