new mercedes s-class launched at rs 1.57 crore

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new S-Class, the S 500 L, at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.57 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi. The new S-Class will be available across India, but the first 125 examples have already been booked.

While the price of the new S-Class may appear eye-watering, the car breaks new ground even for a company like Mercedes. It is equipped with every conceivable luxury and convenience feature available, including massage seats, an extremely high-quality Burmester sound system, Wi-fi, night vision, LED mood lighting, and full LED adaptive lights for the headlamps and tail-lamps.

Mercedes has also spent a lot of time and money on refining the new S-Class, and it is reputedly quieter and smoother than any of its immediate competition. In fact, with the new S-Class, Mercedes-Benz is playing in the ultra-luxury segment, competing against the likes of even ultra-premium brands such as Bentley and Rolls Royce.

For now, the new S-Class is only available with a single engine option in India – a 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine – but a diesel version will also be offered subsequently. Despite the car’s prodigious weight of 2.2 tonnes, Mercedes claims the S 500 L will accelerate to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. With an 80-litre fuel tank, the S-Class will manage a realistic range of about 500 kilometres in India.

The last generation of the S-Class sold almost half a million units worldwide. The new S-Class wil spawn a number of derivatives, and so is expected to better this sales figure, but just by how much, we will only know later. An S 600 Pullman limousine, with a V12 engine, will be just one of the many derivatives of the new S-Class, which will also spawn a two-door coupe and convertible. The S 600 Pullman will also come to India, but maybe sometime in 2015-16. Till then, you can satisfy yourself with this car, often referred to as the best car in the world.
