Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India at the launch

The tenth and the eleventh car for Mercedes Benz in the Indian market are two topless beauties, the cabriolet variants of the C-Class and the S-Class in India carrying a sticker price of Rs 60 lakh and Rs 2.25 crore respectively (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Both cars will be available in India via the CBU route.

The overall design of the convertible is based on the C-Class coupe. The only major change in design is the S-Class Cabrio-inspired tail lights and the fabric roof. The interiors are almost identical to the C-Class sedan variant.

There will be one more launch from Mercedes-Benz India before the year comes to an end. Mercedes-Benz has the largest range of convertibles cars in India. The German manufacturer has sold 9,924 units till now in the calendar year and is hoping to end the year on a high.

The C300 Cabriolet is the smallest convertible on sale (not that it is a small car) and takes the design cues from its sedan sibling albeit with a few changes. The C300 Cabriolet will have a fabric roof, a different front and rear end and of course, it is missing two doors at the rear. The roof folds down in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Under the hood, the car is powered by the 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol motor that produced 244PS of max power and 370Nm of peak torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 9G-TRONIC gearbox. It can hit top speed of 250 kmph and does the 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.4 seconds. There will be a host of customisation options and optional equipment on offer as well.

Coming to more luxurious S500 Cabriolet, joining Mercedes-Benz’s flagship S-Class range. The manufacturer claims that in spite of featuring a soft top the S500 Cabrio is one of the quietest convertibles in the world. Making a comeback after 45 years, the S-Class Cabrio marks its re-entry with distinctive and exclusive design, packed with the cutting-edge technology of the S-Class. Powering this beauty is a 4.7-litre V8 engine developing 455PS of power and 700Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 9G-TRONIC auto box transmitting power to the rear wheels. It can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.6 seconds and hit a maximum of 250 kmph. The roof on this one too folds in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 kmph. The engine on the S500 Cabriolet too is mated to a 9-speed 9G-Tronic transmission unit. As far as styling is concerned the S500 Cabriolet borrows the design cues from the S-Class Coupe. The S500 Cabriolet will have 9 exterior colour options along with 4 colour options for the fabric roof as well. The S500 Cabriolet is the sixth S-Class model to be introduced in India.
