new range rover sport launched in india

(L) Rohit Suri, VP - JLR India and (R) Del Sehmar, Head of PR and Communications at the new Range Rover Sport launch.

Land Rover India has launched the new Range Rover Sport in the Indian car market. This sporty SUV has, according to Land Rover, “more Range Rover” and “more Sport”, which is to say that is nearly as luxurious as its illustrious big brother Range Rover, but sportier still.

There are a host of chassis improvements to the new Range Rover Sport, beginning of course with its all-Aluminium construction. There’s also self-levelling air suspension and a sophisticated electronic stability programme which allows the new Sport to corner almost like a sports car, thanks to tech that can adjust the suspension 500 times a second! Of course, traditional off-road prowess hasn’t been neglected either, and the new Range Rover Sport is capable of wading through water nearly 3 feet deep, and also has the sophisticated Terrain Response System.

For the Indian market, the new Range Rover Sport will be available with the choice of two engines, which are also seen in the bigger Range Rover. These include a 3.0-litre V6 diesel rated at 292 PS and 600 Nm, and a 5.0-litre supercharged petrol with 510 PS and 625 Nm. Performance will be strong, with Land Rover claiming 5.3 seconds to 100 km/h for the supercharged petrol – quick indeed!

The interiors of the new Range Rover Sport follows a theme similar to that of the bigger Range Rover, but with some modifications to go with its sportier character, including a more steeply raked centre console, lower driving position and a chunkier steering wheel.

Ex-showroom, Mumbai prices for the new Range Rover Sport are:

3.0L SDV6 S Diesel: INR 1,09,91,000
5.0L SC Petrol Autobiography: INR 1,65,85,000
