Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has launched the 2013 Camry Hybrid in India at the price of Rs 29.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With this launch, the Toyota Camry becomes the first locally manufactured hybrid vehicle in India which is being manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi plant located in Karnataka.


Speaking about the launch of the 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid in India, Hiroshi Nakagawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer,  Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “The Camry Hybrid is India’s first locally manufactured hybrid vehicle. Manufacturing the Camry hybrid locally, in India, marks a very important milestone in the history of TKM and the Indian automobile industry. It is our endeavor to offer the best vehicles with most advanced technology to India. Toyota is a pioneer in hybrid technology and thus we were very keen to manufacture the all New Camry Hybrid in India, as well. This is in line with Toyota’s global philosophy to encourage the use of hybrid vehicles across the globe, for a greener tomorrow. Manufacturing the Camry Hybrid locally will be yet another step towards Toyota’s global commitment.”


The 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol powerplant assisted by an electric motor, with the hybrid system producing 205PS of maximum power. The engine is mated to an electronically-controlled continuous variable transmission (e-CVT). The hybrid system’s battery is nickel metal hydride with a capacity of producing 6.5amp per hour. The battery is neatly tucked away behind the rear seat.


The new Toyota Camry Hybrid comes equipped with features such as tilt and telescopic steering column with memory function, ventilated front seats, and a collapsible headrest for the front passenger seat, powered reclining rear seat, three-zone climate control, four airbags, traction control, vehicle stability control, corner sensors and hill start assist control.


Toyota claims that the new Camry Hybrid boasts of a fuel efficiency of 19.16kmpl. The 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid is available in four colours schemes – Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic, Attitude Black and White Pearl Crystal Shine.
