Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey: Team Spirit Counts

The evening air of New Delhi echoed with the thumping sound of the powerful Royal Enfield engines on July 8 as the final curtain was drawn on the 16-day long 9th Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey covering large tracts of challenging Ladakh terrains.

In the mega Indian motorcycling trek, a total of 67 bikers from India as well as abroad burned the hilly rocky tracks, covering a total distance of 2722 kilometres. The unique point about this Odyssey was that it was designed on non-competitive basis to provide the participants with a grand platform of team-building spirit and promote adventure biking in a country where owning a two-wheeler has become a mantra of the new generation. The entire Royal Enfield motorcycle trekking route included Delhi and Khardung La in both the ends.

The final felicitation ceremony turned out to be a much higher extravaganza than a normal farewell programme for the bikers as the ‘good bye’ bash mixed with a celebration of the true spirit of motorcycling, colourful felicitation, and bonds of friendship and recounting of the trekking turned displayed another side of motorcycling, i.e. - triumph of human spirit and camaraderie mixed with modern automation in equal ratio. Each of the Odyssey participants not only went up on stage to receive their certificates but also shared their experience covering the 16-day trek and pointed out how the 9th Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey metamorphosed their spirit that will indirectly enrich their philosophy of life in the longer run.

While handing out the certificates to the riders, an emotional yet jubilant Venki Padmanabhan, CEO, Royal Enfield, said, “This is what we live for; to welcome our heroes back and to watch them reunite with their families and friends. And to know, that we had a small part in creating such joy and perhaps new meaning in their lives. In some ways, our work here is done. In some ways, our work here has just begun”.

The farewell felicitation ceremony for the Royal Enfield’s Odyssey heroes was entertainment galore as the motley audience swayed to some foot-tapping music produced by one of the oldest and biggest rock bands of the country- Pentagram. To add fuel to the flame of Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey excitement and instil a sense of rapport among the riders an interesting mix of signature cocktails like Khar dung La sunrise, Machismo, Home alone, Whiskey Nala, Classic and Flying Flea were specially prepared for the riders.

Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey: Help at Hand

Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey has delicately craved a portion in the history of motorcycling event in India as one of the oldest and premier adventure motorcycling sojourn in the country. This spectacular two and half week long Royal Enfield borne adventure opens up a vast tract of mesmerising yet most daunting challenges to the experienced bikers and their Royal Enfield bikes. Different varieties of natural formations, such as mud, rock, snow, rain and sand welcome the riders. The odyssey undoubtedly tests the participants’ determination and physical strength besides their riding skills. In such high altitudes the temperature sometimes drops below 30 degrees while acute shortage of oxygen adds up to the hazards. Naturally, in such condition only driving experience is not enough to successfully complete the trek; rather it’s a ‘survival for the fittest’ expedition. To deal with any emergency situation, medical help and mechanical assistance provisions are always made accessible on 24/7 basis.
