After the overwhelming success of the Himalayan Drive 4 held earlier this year, Kolkata-based sports management company Just Sportz is back with a bang with the MRF Monsoon Drive 5.

 

Monsoon Drive 5 was run in the TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) format and constituted the East Zone – Round 1 of the Indian National TSD Rally Championship (INTSDRC) 2016.

 

The Ceremonial Flag Off of the MRF Monsoon Drive 5 took place from South City Mall on Saturday, August 20, 2016. The competitors were flagged off by Jayanta Kumar Basu, Special Commissioner, Kolkata Police.

The Rally was flagged off on Sunday, August 21, from Country Roads at Panchla, Howrah and after traversing a stretch of approximately 150 kilometres comprising highway, rural roads and dirt sections in Howrah and East Medinipur, the rally reached the industrial town of Haldia and culminated at the Haldia Helipad Ground in the afternoon. The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held on the same evening at Country Roads and was graced by  H A Safwi, Honourable Deputy Speaker of West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

 

A total of 36 teams took part in the MRF Monsoon Drive 5, out of which, 14 teams participated in the INTSDRC Class and 22 teams took part in the Open Class. This year INTSDRC constitutes of eight rounds all over the country, with two rounds being in each zone. Top seven teams of INTSDRC Class from each zone will qualify for the finals.
