The DTM staged races 13 and 14 last weekend in front of 66,000 spectators at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Mercedes-Benz lead the DTM drivers’ and the team standings after seven of nine race weekends this season.

Mercedes-AMG DTM driver Pascal Wehrlein extended his lead in the overall standings with a P5 in the second race. He is now on 140 points, 14 points up on Swedish driver Mattias Ekstrom (Audi). gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG lead the team rankings with a total of 196 points.

Pascal Wehrlein, said, “My start was okay until the first turn, but then I was on the outside and would perhaps have been spun, if I’d not left the door open. That’s why I lost a position there. On the whole, I thought that we might perhaps be a bit stronger in the race, but it was only enough for fifth place in the end. Still, I can be pleased with my position in the overall standings.”

Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM, said, “That was a disappointing race for us – one we’d already lost at the start. After a solid qualifying, none of our drivers who had qualified in the Top Ten were able to gain position. Oschersleben is a track where it’s extremely difficult to overtake. We saw the proof of that again today. Also, two drivers in promising positions – Christian Vietoris and Gary Paffett – lost ground directly as a result of the collision at the start, and their vehicles were so badly damaged that they were off the pace in the race. At least, Pascal Wehrlein was able to extend his lead in the championship. What was also very positive is that Paul Di Resta finished sixth, extending our lead in the team standings.”

The next race weekend of the 2015 DTM season will be staged September 25-27 at the Nurburgring.
