31 Jan 2014 Update: New Chevrolet Beat Launch on Feb 5th

General Motors India has confirmed that it will launch a new Chevrolet Beat on Feb 5th at the Indian Auto Expo. However, this is not an all-new Beat; rather, it is a facelift, which is shown below. GM will also display a new concept vehicle, rumoured to be an all-new sub-4 metre SUV.

General Motors To Launch Chevrolet Beat Facelift In 2014

chevy-beat-facelift

WHEN: Early 2014

HOW MUCH: Rs 4.5 – 6.0 lakh

ENGINES: 1.1-litre turbo diesel, 1.2-litre petrol

COMPETITION: Ford FigoMaruti RitzHyundai Grand i10Honda Brio

General Motors India is planning to launch the new Beat facelift at the Indian Auto Expo next month. The Chevrolet Beat was initially launched with the petrol engine option only 2010, however, the company quickly realized the growing demand for diesel vehicles in India and introduced the model with diesel engine in 2011.

It has been three years since its launch and in order to keep the model looking fresh and attractive, GM India has given it a facelift, with a deeper two-part grille and a new bumper and fog light design.

The Beat facelift is expected to carryover the same 1.1-litre 3-cylinder diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engines. These engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The Chevrolet Beat facelift is already available in many European markets and will come to India early 2014.

Chevy Beat Diesel Coming Soon

diesel Chevy Beat Rs 4.2 lakh

WHEN: August 2011

HOW MUCH: Rs 4.2 -5.0 lakh, ex-showroom

ENGINE: 1.0 XSDE, 3-cylinder. 57 PS and 140 Nm

COMPETITION: Ford Figo TDCi

The Chevrolet Beat with a three-cylinder diesel engine will be on the market soon. The diesel Beat is powered by an engine developed jointly with Fiat, and based on the ubiquituous 1.3-litre Multijet diesel, which does duty in a variety of cars. This engine has been optimised for fuel efficiency and ease of city driving, and puts out modest power and torque fgures of 57 PS and 140 Nm respectively.

The diesel Beat will go head-tohead with the Ford Figo TDCi, as there are no other diesel hatchbacks in the Indian market at this price point. However, Chevy insiders have told autojunction.in that they expect to price the diesel Beat very competitively to the Figo, and will look to undercut the Ford by Rs 15-20,000 across the range. The Beat will be available in 3 to 4 different variants.

With its sharp looks and cheeky nature, not to mention very good fuel economy, the diesel Beat could be a winning package for the American manufacturer, and could go on to be its most popular Indian model yet. Yes, it does suffer from lack of a big boot, but as a city car otherwise, this could be a very popular car.
