Dec 22, 2014 Update: Datsun India has confirmed that the new GO+ will be launched on January 15, in Mumbai. This date will mark the national launch of the new GO+, which competes with the likes of the Maruti-Suzuki Eeco as a compact utility vehicle. The new Datsun GO+ will be the second car from the Nissan subsidiary to be launched in India.

New Datsun Go+ To Be Launched In January 2015

Nissan subsidiary Datsun has recently revealed its new Go+ MPV in Indonesia. The Datsun Go+ shares much with the smaller Datsun Go hatchback, which was unveiled in India in July. The Datsun Go+ will first go on sale in Indonesia, which is a huge MPV market, but definitely seems set for an Indian future as well.

The Go+ shares the same 2,450 mm wheelbase as the Go hatchback, and indeed is the same all the way till the rear doors. The front-end styling is identical too, with the same bold grille and angular headlights. In fact, the only skinning changes are aft of the C-pillar. The tailgate for the hatchback and the tail lamps are identical on the Go and Go+ as well. The new Go+ measures 3,995 mm in length, which is 210 mm more than the Go hatch, and this increase in length is only between the C- and D-pillar. Such an approach of course means that Datsun will be able to rationalise its tooling costs tremendously, helping to keep the final sale price very cheap. Do not miss the significance of the sub-4-metre overall length either, no doubt an outcome of the 4-metre “small car” rule in India, which attracts lower duties.

Powering the new Datsun Go+ will be the same Nissan-sourced 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which has been confirmed for the Go hatch as well. The Go+ obviously will utilise the same 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive layout as its hatch sibling. There are no indications of a diesel powertrain to be offered initially, but do not discount the Renault-sourced 1.5-litre dCi altogether. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has worked hard at localising this engine for manufacture at its Oragadam facility, and it’s not impossible to presume that the 65PS version could be shoe-horned into the Go and Go+ engine bays.

As you can see from these pictures, the interiors of the Go+ are again identical to the Go, with the only change being the addition of a third row of seats. These will be understandably cramped, given the modest proportions of this car, but expect some smart packaging from Datsun engineers. Customers are likely to appreciate the fold-flat feature however, which allows the third row to be folded flat into the floor to liberate more luggage space. With this third seat in place, one will have to resort to a luggage carrier to be able to carry around any luggage.

The Go+ is likely to follow the Go hatchback into the market sometime in late 2014, or early in 2015, according to hints from the company. The key attractive factor will be the Go+’s price, which could start below the INR 5 lakh mark. If Datsun manages to pull it off at this price, then there should be a long queue of customers outside the showrooms.
