Nissan's low-cost car brand, Datsun has already revealed the Go-cross Concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and the Tokyo Motor Show, which might become a part of Datsun Go and Go Plus family range in emerging markets.

Based on the Go Plus platform, the Datsun Go-cross previews a potential low-cost crossover. Datsun will unveil this car based on CMF-A platform at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Going by the response for Go-Cross concept, we believe that Nissan could also unveil this prototype at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in February.

The Datsun Go-cross looks more like a crossover version of the redi-Go concept that had made its debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Though with features such as plastic cladding around the body, roof rails, 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, etc, it looks more rugged.

According to the company, the Go-cross — designed by a dedicated team in Japan — is based on the same platform as the the Go Plus MPV. By the looks of it, both the vehicles share very little design elements except for the rising shoulder line. The new concept also sits higher than the Go Plus, and features a bigger D-Cut grille, a higher bonnet line, a massive bonnet and taller body sides.

“Our challenge was to create an unmistakable crossover which kept some iconic design cues from the Datsun Go Plus yet, at the same time, was distinctly different. The Datsun Go-cross Concept is proof positive that Datsun’s design language is consistent yet flexible enough to shape every kind of vehicle,” said Koli Nagano, Executive Design Director, Datsun.

Since the Datsun Go-cross is in early concept stage and the company is yet to finalise if it will go into production or not, no technical details were revealed. The company also revealed its plans of launching an entry-level hatchback based on the CMF-A platform that also underpins the Renault Kwid. The scheduled hatchback will take its design cues from the redi-Go concept, and will derive its power from either the Kwid’s 0.8-litre petrol unit or 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre K9K turbo diesel engine that also powers the Nissan Micra. Transmission options could include a five-speed manual and an AMT.
