First unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Huracan has rather big shoes to fill as it will be replacing the Italian super car maker’s most successful model till date – the Gallardo. With 14,022 units produced, the Gallardo is beyond doubt the most successful Lamborghini model ever made. During its ten-year production run, it took the brand into a completely new dimension. In true Lamborghini tradition, the successor to the Gallardo also takes its name from the world of bullfighting. Huracan was a fighting bull of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed which fought in August 1879 in Alicante. His unyielding character made him invincible and has inspired Lamborghini to name their latest super car after it.
The Lamborghini Huracan is powered by a 5.2-litre V-10 engine mated to a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission ‘Lamborghini Doppia Frizione’ (LDF) and an all-wheel drive that also features a new hydraulic multi-plate clutch.
Three different driving modes, spanning from road to race track, can be selected using a drive select switch in the steering wheel. The system is called ANIMA (Italian for Soul) – ‘Adaptive Network Intelligent Management’, and impacts the engine, the transmission, the all-wheel drive and the ESC handling system as well as other dynamic systems.
The Lamborghini Huracan also deploys full LED lighting as standard, including the headlights. LED lights are supposed to be more reliable and durable, while also providing more uniform lighting. On the interior, there is Nappa leather and Alcantara trim, with numerous colour combinations available to allow customers to customise the car to their individual taste. A 12.3 inch full colour TFT touchscreen display delivers all important info to the driver, serving as an interface for the navigation, audio systems and even the engine revs.
The Lamborghini Huracan can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in a matter of 3.2 seconds and 0 to 200 kmph can be achieved in just under 10 seconds. The Huracan has a mind boggling top speed of 325 kmph. Carbon ceramic brakes are fitted as standard, to give the Huracan an equally massive amount of stopping power.
Weight has been kept to a minimum, thanks to Lamborghini’s extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber. The Italian automaker has been touting carbon fiber construction in everything it builds, from concept SUVs to the ultra-exotic Veneno. Now the material finds a home in the new Huracan.
The Huracan is the Italian super car maker’s most affordable offering and is priced at 169,500 Euro. When launched in India on September 22, 2014, the Lamborghini Huracan will set you back by almost Rs 3 crore. Are you still with us?
