15 Sept Update: Maruti Ciaz Launch on October 1

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz India Bound By Diwali 2014

Suzuki-Alivio-Concept
WHEN: September / October 2014
HOW MUCH: Rs 7 - 10 lakh
ENGINES: 1.3-litre Multijet diesel and 1.6-litre petrol
COMPETITION: Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Fiat Linea, Hyundai Verna, Renault Scala, Nissan Sunny

Japanese carmaker Suzuki has unveiled its new Alivio Concept sedan at the recently concluded 2014 Auto China in Beijing. The Suzuki Alivio Concept was earlier showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo in February as the Ciaz and seems to be near close to what the future production version would look like once the car comes to India in end 2014. It is mostly likely that Maruti Suzuki will stick to the Ciaz nameplate for the Indian market.

Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will get the same 1.6-litre petrol motor and the the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that currently does duty in the SX4. Both these tried and trusted engines have received a lot of accolades for being frugal and responsive. The Ciaz will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission and an all new 6-speed automatic gearbox.

At first glance, the Ciaz appears to be a smart looking car, in fact, better than the SX4 which it will replace when it is launched in India. The Ciaz gets chrome washed front grille with the Suzuki logo sitting pretty in the centre flanked by large projector headlamps and huge air dams in the bumper. A sharp line running from the front wheel arches right up to the tail lamp lends a lot of character to the car. At the rear, the Alivio features dual tail pipes and air-scoops integrated into the bumper. Suzuki claims that the new design language is based on a ‘Sporty and Noble’ theme.

At this point, information about the Maruti Suzuki Alivio is scarce, however, we expect the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz to be priced between Rs 7.5-10 lakh and will compete with the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Renault Scala, Nissan Sunny, Fiat Linea and Hyundai Verna.
