Japanese auto manufacturer Nissan has unveiled the new X-Trail at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Sold as the Rogue in the US, the new Nissan X-Trail gets subtle changes in looks, features and riding capabilities and is set to go on sale globally in 2014.


Nissan has remained tight lipped about the details pertaining to the powertrain. It is believed that this information will be revealed closer to the car’s official launch. However, both petrol and diesel engines options are expected, with 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.  The new X-Trail will be built on Renault-Nissan’s new Common Modular Platform.




"This new X-Trail builds on the reputation earned over three product generations for quality and reliability enhanced by class-leading levels of value, innovation, dynamic performance and premium style," said Nissan President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn.


In a statement released to the press, Nissan has stated that “the New X-Trail is just as tough and accomplished as the previous generation model, but adds crossover style and efficiency, exciting design, innovative technology and exceptional comfort to set a new benchmark in the fiercely competitive C-SUV market.”




In terms of design, the new X-Trail has a steep windscreen, a hugging roof line that tapers gradually and high wheel arches bulging on the sides lend it a look similar to the Nissan Qashqai. The hawk-eye headlamps with LED daytime running lights and restyled taillights are some of the other changes that one would notice. The new X-Trail also sports 19” alloys.


The new X-Trail will comes equipped with features such as Nissan Safety Shield and the new fully integrated, NissanConnect navigation and infotainment system. Uphill Start Support, Advance Hill Descent Control, Active Ride Control and Active Engine Brake are the driver assists available on the new Nissan X-Trail.



Nissan will build the new X-Trail in nine different manufacturing sites. After its global reveal, new X-Trail will be launched in the first quarter of 2014 with worldwide sales starting in July 2014.  The model could be expected to arrive in the Indian market sometime in the end of 2014.
