20 March 2014 Update: New Fluence Launch by Month-end

Renault will launch the face-lifted Renault Fluence in India before the end of the month, autojunction.in can reveal. The face-lifted Fluence gets a substantially revised exterior, with new lights, new grile and a re-sttyled rear end. The changes make the already-attractive car even nicer to look at.

Face-lifted Renault Fluence To Come To India In 2014

WHEN: Early 2014

HOW MUCH: Rs 12 - 14 lakh

ENGINES: 2.0-litre 16-valve, 137PS petrol engine, 1.5-litre K9K, 112PS diesel and 1.6-litre dCi, 132PS diesel engines

COMPETITION: Skoda Laura, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Hyundai Sonata Transform, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Jetta

It was in May 2011 that French carmaker Renault forayed into the Indian car market with the launch of its very first product – Renault Fluence executive sedan. The Fluence jumped right into the fray against more established players like the Skoda Laura. At the launch, Len Curran of Renault had made a promise to everyone gathered that afternoon that Renault will launch five cars across segments in the coming 18 months. In months to follow, Renault went on to launch the Koleos SUV, followed by the Pulse hatchback, compact SUV Duster and finally the Scala sedan.

Having delivered the promise they made in 2011, Renault has now decided to give a facelift to its first product in the Indian market – Renault Fluence. At the 2012 Istanbul Motor Show held earlier this month, the French car manufacturer has lifted the curtains off the facelifted version of its Renault Fluence executive sedan.

The designers at Renault has tweaked the exterior of the refreshed Fluence which now comes with a completely new front fascia and a wider grille that houses the Renault lozenge. The facelifted Fluence also sports new bumper and LED daytime running lights.

On the inside the Renault Fluence facelift features a new digital instrumentation, new audio system, a touchscreen interface for telephony, navigation and audio, upgraded upholstery, hands free phone control, front and rear parking sensors and automatic parking brake.

The facelifted Renault Fluence will be offered with two engine options. Firstly, a 1.6-litre 16-valve petrol engine which produces 117PS of maximum power and is mated to an X-Tronic CVT auto transmission. And then there are the 1.5-litre K9K diesel that pumps 112PS of power and the 132PS, 1.6-litre dCi diesel unit. According to the company, this new diesel engine is quite frugal and provides a mileage of 21.73 kmpl. The 1.5 dCi unit is presently offered on the Indian Fluence, but the company is evaluating options to bring in the more powerful 1.6 dCi engine when it introduces the new car. The 2.0-litre petrol engine may be dropped altogether from the range, considering there is very little demand for the same.

The facelifted Renault Fluence will go on sale in Europe in 2013 and is expected to go on sale in India soon after.
