Tata Bolt Launch Expected Around September 2014

WHEN: September 2014

HOW MUCH: Rs 4.5 – 6.5 lakh

ENGINES: 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.3-litre diesel

COMPETITION: Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Hyundai i20, Nissan Micra

Home grown auto major Tata Motors has unveiled the Bolt hatchback just ahead of the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo held in February. In a statement released to the press, Tata Motors has stated that the name Bolt signifies speed, representing an attitude of winning, and staying ahead.

According to the auto maker, the Bolt has been engineered for global markets, through global teams across India, UK and Korea. The Bolt is a result of the collaborative design inputs from the three Tata Motors design studios in Pune, Coventry (UK) and Turin (Italy).

Manufactured on the X1 platform, the Bolt mark a strategic shift towards a global portfolio of cars designed to offer high performance and connectivity. The Tata Bolt will be powered by the Revotron 1.2T - a 1.2-litre turbocharged intercooled multi-point fuel-injected (MPFi) petrol engine. The Fiat-sourced diesel, dubbed Quadrajet in Tata vehicles, will also be offfered. A robotised manual gearbox is another innovation, although Tata cannot claim to be first to market with it. That distinction lies with the Maruti Celerio.

The Tata Bolt hatchback sports a roof spoiler. Its look is further enhanced due to the smart placement of fog lamp bezels. The Bolt will come equipped with features like ABS, EPAS, speed sensitive power steering and active return function. Moreover, the car is loaded with next generation Harman infotainment system that lets you access the entire collection of videos, music and more on the 5 inch touchscreen.

The Tata Bolt will be launched in 2014 in India and subsequently in other countries.
