Japanese carmaker Toyota is gearing up to launch the Innova Crysta on May 3, 2016.

At the very first glance, the Innova strikes your attention with the redesigned facia, which now shares design cues from Camry and Fortuner. The front hexagonal grille, silhouette line and inverted L-shaped lamps dashed on the boot-lid at the rear gives the new Innova a complete new look.

The 2016 Innova is based, which is based on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) which the company claims to be a lighter yet stiffer platform.

The new Innova is now powered by a new 2.4-litre diesel engine, which churn out 149 PS, 360Nm, with 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options. A 2.0 litre petrol engine, which develops 140 PS of power and 183Nm of torque, will also be available.

The 2016 Innova will be 4,735mm long, 1,830mm wide and 1,795mm high, this means it is 180mm longer, 60mm wider and 45mm taller than the current model. The wheelbase, however, is the same at 2,750mm.

The cabin of the new Innova has also been heavily revamped, which will now feature a redesigned dashboard, steering and instrument cluster from the Hilux pickup truck. Additionally, Toyota has also improved the seat fabric and overall comfort levels. We are expecting the top-spec variants to feature AC vents for both rows, touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted audio controls, keyless entry and LED headlamps as standard.

On the safety front, the Innova 2016 will features three airbags in the front (passenger, driver and driver-side knee airbag) as standard across all variants while the trim will be equipped with seven airbags. Other additions include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as standard across the range whereas the top-end variants are likely to receive Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Assist Control (HAC).
