After its world premiere at the 2016 Auto Expo, Ameo, the much awaited compact sedan from Volkswagen that has been specifically designed for the Indian market is set to hit the showrooms mid-2016.  

 

Ameo is the first product from the stable of Volkswagen to be made specifically for the Indian market. The sub-four metre sedan based on the VW Polo’s PQ25 platform, once launched would compete with Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire, and Hyundai Xcent.

Built at Volkwagen’s Pune factory with an investment of Rs 720 crore, Ameo will have an interior nearly identical to the current VW Polo. It gets a dual tone black and beige interior color combination, silver trim on the center console, multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel with manual adjustability and a 7-inch central infotainment touchscreen display, which is unavailable on the Polo.

 

Ameo will be powred by a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine same as in Polo and Vento, while an entry level 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine and an 1.2-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol paired to a 7-speed DSG may be introduced in top-end variants.

Sub four meter means it is compact than the Vento which it is most likely it is based on. Side profile is remain the same as well. However, the front and rear profiles change dramatically to make the sedan an instant success from the moment you look at it. VW Ameo comes with body colored bumpers, detailing in chrome, chrome applique on door handles, alloy wheels and static cornering lights.

 

All variants of the VW Ameo will sport ABS and dual front airbags as standard, VW India confirmed at the product unveil. In addition, the Ameo will get features like alloy wheels, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, rear AC, automatic climate control and a touchscreen MirrorLink entertainment system.
