In a recent survey conducted by an online automotive portal, hatchbacks from Maruti and Hyundai have emerged on the top of the charts as the most preferred pre-owned car brands. Amongst the cars which featured among the most desirable used cars from Maruti, the Swift emerged the most favourite followed by Alto and Wagon R. Amongst the Hyundai hatchbacks, Santro Xing emerged on top closely followed by i10 and i20.




The survey threw light on the fact that about 73 per cent of consumers considered the brand value of the used car while 13 per cent based their choices on the price of the vehicle. Fuel type also proved to be an important factor with as many as 60 per cent of the customers preferring petrol cars in comparison to 30 per cent people opting for diesel vehicles.




The survey further revealed that the SUV and MUV segments in the used car market attracted comparatively lesser demand with people opting to buy new compact SUVs like Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. The A4 segment which comprise of cars such as the Honda Civic, Toyota Corrola Altis and Volkswagen Jetta seems worst affected with extremely poor demand which has resulted in unimpressive resale values.




Reiterating the change in consumer mindset, Umang Kumar, CEO, Gaadi.com said, “The used car industry has witnessed a huge boost over the last couple of years. Although, the overall auto industry witnessed possibly the worst slump in 10 years, the used car segment remained intact and growing and is looking at an 18-20 per cent growth rate over the next 5 years. The growing middle class and the changing urban transport needs have been the biggest oxidants for its growth. We will continue to aid consumers make an informed choice by providing them with a transparent and reliable platform for used car listings with detailed information.”
